The Bennington-Rutland Supervisory Union (BRSU) has officially announced its Summer Meals Program for 2026 to ensure no child goes hungry during the summer break.
Running throughout the month of July, the initiative offers targeted on-site dining for students enrolled at MEMS and Flood Brook School alongside a grocery-style meal kit distribution program open to all local youth. To prevent duplication of resources, children are eligible to participate in only one of the two available options.
Option 1: On-Site Dining for Summer Programs
For students staying active in local summer programs, daily breakfast and lunch will be served directly at school campuses. This option is explicitly reserved for students enrolled in summer programming at:
Manchester Elementary Middle School (MEMS)
Flood Brook School (FBS) (in partnership with The Collaborative)
Option 2: "Meal Kits 4 Kids" Program
In an effort to catch children who aren't on campus, BRSU is bringing back its popular bulk distribution model. The "Meal Kits 4 Kids" option provides seven days' worth of grocery-style breakfasts and lunches packed into a single weekly pickup.
Who Qualifies? The grocery kits are available to all children aged 18 and under who are not already receiving meals on-site through Option 1. Families do not need to attend a specific school or reside in a specific district to qualify.
Distribution Schedule & Pickup Locations
The meal kit distributions will run for four consecutive weeks in July. Families can pick up their weekly kits at the following regional locations:
Day of the Week | Pickup Window | Location | Dates |
Tuesdays | 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM | Arlington Memorial High School | July 7 – July 28 |

For information on receiving meals in the summer, households can call 2-1-1, the United Way-run resource hotline, or go to the USDA Meals for Kids Site Finder. All sites listed are open to all children, 18 and under. Information is available mid-June, and any necessary changes are made on a weekly basis. The BRSU is an equal opportunity provider.
