A raw, wet day moved Halloween festivities inside, but did not dampen the holiday spirit for the kids at MEMS.
The weather outside was frightful. The forecast for continued wind and rain spelled doom for the students of Manchester Elementary Middle School (MEMS) at their annual Rag-a-Muffin Halloween trek through town.
“We waited for the last possible moment to make the final call,” said MEMS Principal Harrison Shulman. “But once we decided to move the parade inside, staff, parents, and local merchants rallied quickly behind Plan B - a parade through the school. Most importantly, the kids still had a great time. Thank you to all of the staff, families and local business owners who pivoted and came together to celebrate Halloween with our students.”.
The MEMS gymnasium became the staging area for the holiday procession. Costumed students gathered gleefully by grade waiting their turn to march. Wizards and witches, princesses and princes, Spidermen and Batmen, a few K-Pop Demon Hunters, a Hot Dog (with mustard and relish) and a homemade claw-machine costume lined up with empty bags a’ready for filling with sweet and salty treats.
Parents and merchants cheered the marchers, pulled out phones to take photos and videos, and dropped goodies into bags. The students strolled by the library and down to the first floor toward the cafeteria before heading up to the second floor and circling back to the gym.
The bad weather outside was forgotten. Inside, all was clear and dry. And once-empty sacks were transformed into candy bars, potato chips, and so many more devilishly delicious treats.

The Claw came prepared to reach out and collect treasures.

After parading through the school students returned to the gymnasium to explore their treasures of sweet and salty treats.

A dinosaur appeared in the gymnasium ready to walk through the school and devour a wide assortment of treats.
