Music and a collaborative spirit warmed the hearts of families and guests at the Flood Brook School’s Winter Concert. Enthusiastic students from grades kindergarten through fifth grade sang and danced the night away generating positive energy that was plain for all to feel and see.

ā€œIt was a wonderful night for the students to have a shared performative experience and for the Flood Brook community to be brought together,ā€ says Flood Brook Principal Johanna Liskowsky-Doak. ā€œOur music teacher Jack Sullivan and the students were fabulous!ā€

In curating the program, Sullivan reached back in time to some memorable musical moments. The performances, for example, included a rendition of Louis Armstrong’s ā€œWhat a Wonderful Worldā€ and ā€œThe Rainbow Connectionā€ from the 1979 film The Muppet Movie.

In recreating the song from the movie, Sullivan drew on support from Flood Brook teachers and the Stratton Foundation who donated socks that 3rd and 4th grade students used to make unique puppets under the guidance of the school’s art teacher Maureen Randall.

Another program highlight featured a choreographed production of penguin themed songs by kindergarten and first grade students. Their performance was enhanced by hand made penguin masks created by Randall.

To close the show Sullivan acknowledged a new tradition at Flood Brook. All concert performers squeezed onstage and led the audience in a sing-along of Woody Guthrie’s ā€œThis Land is Your Land.ā€
